Clara Vastano is a Berlin-born illustrator and artist currently studying in Halle, whose work frequently explores themes of womanhood, otherness, and the emotive through a socially critical lens. Seeking inspiration from nature to articulate the silent complexities of everyday existence, she relies on recurring motifs such as glances, silhouettes, and vast wooded landscapes. For the festival, she exhibits her bachelor thesis project, “Das Gute Haus” (The Good House), a narrative consisting of three interwoven stories that look at a hybrid brothel and therapeutic center from distinct perspectives. The presentation showcases roughly 50 to 60 original textless colored drawings alongside translated English text fragments to guide international visitors through the narrative of the handbound hardcover book. To extend the comic’s world into the physical space, she proposes an immersive installation featuring a fake grass floor, textile banners, and enlarged wooden structural elements representing the characters and surrounding trees.
