Ellis Tolsma is a freelance illustrator and visual artist from Utrecht, the Netherlands, where she also runs Studio Misprint. Her cheerful, graphic visual language is deeply inspired by vintage children’s books, patterns, and toys, and is characterized by geometric shapes, bold color combinations, and abstractions. For the festival, she presents a cohesive body of work centered entirely around the concept of “misprints,” celebrating the inherent imperfections, shifting layers, and happy accidents of the risograph printing process. This exhibition brings together experimental prints that were never intended to look the way they do, transforming studio mistakes into a completely new visual narrative on the gallery wall. To expand the tactile texture of riso into motion, she supplements the static works with looping, slightly off-kilter riso animations projected directly onto the exhibition surfaces.
