Elsy Bao (包壹栗) is a London-based multidisciplinary artist and zine maker from China whose cross-cultural practice explores the interplay between form, texture, and tradition. Informed by a multicultural upbringing and a deep curiosity for hands-on making, she frequently integrates woodwork and ceramics into her contemporary, material-led storytelling. For the festival, she presents “Karaoke Party”, an art zine and installation developed during an artist residency in Fukuoka, Japan, that uses karaoke as a lens to investigate shared cultural spaces. Centered around lyrics by Teresa Teng, the project frames the karaoke screen as a visual window that captures the collective memories and melodies rooted across Asian cultures, dissolving generational and national boundaries. Following its initial presentations in Fukuoka and Shanghai, the Prague installation translates this auditory nostalgia into a physical environment, featuring a large hanging textile, a hand-bound spiral zine, and curated original artworks.
