Jonathan Vermersch is a freelance illustrator who works across editorial design and animation, specifically focusing on visual development for branding and advertising. For the festival, he presents a series of illustrations that serve as foundational sketches for ceramic sculptures, exploring how identity is constructed, performed, and externalized in modern society. Each character is constructed from simplified, exaggerated forms, utilizing enlarged garments as architectural bases that support small, minimal bodies. Drawing from the visual language of sportswear and consumer aesthetics, the figures incorporate bold color-blocking and stylized proportions to reference how contemporary identity is shaped through material culture. These sculptures operate as playful yet monumental “soft totems,” using a tension between reduced facial expressions and expressive body shapes to question the underlying social and economic systems that define everyday personas.
