Julia Gmerek is a Polish textile artist deeply fascinated by the creative possibilities of combining form, structure, and color. Her contemporary practice centers primarily on the punch needle technique, a slow and repetitive process that she approaches as a form of active meditation. For the festival, she presents her monumental textile installation “Pieces”, an artwork created using the punch needle technique with reclaimed yarns, jute, and felt. The piece explores the concept of rearranging mismatched or contrasting elements to find a sense of inner coexistence and self-reconstruction. Through its textured, abstract patterns, the work speaks to themes of personal transformation, the acceptance of imperfection, and the liberating joy of creative experimentation.
