Karen Exner is a German artist living and working between Berlin and Munich, specializing in freelance visual art, illustration, and animation projects. She has developed a highly distinctive, time-consuming illustration style by scratching her compositions into oil pastel chalk rather than drawing them conventionally. For the festival, she adapts her book project “Hüte”, which explores global cultural history through traditional headwear. The exhibition brings together her delicate, original scratch illustrations alongside life-sized, wearable headwear sculptures constructed from carton, paper, and paint. To translate this anthropological study into a spatial experience, she presents the sculptures mounted at head height on custom wooden stands or pedestals, accompanied by enlarged portrait posters that form a playful, historical ancestral gallery.
