Lenka Stejskalová is a Prague-based artist and illustrator who specializes in merging contemporary art with traditional craftsmanship, often exploring her own patience through long-term, material-led projects. For the festival, she presents “The Most Beautiful Place,” an ongoing series of hand-embroidered illustrations created for an upcoming authorial book that documents her altered childhood landscape. The project transcends autobiography to examine the broader relationship between humanity and geography, capturing slow, concentrated moments of childhood freedom, play, and timelessness. By leaving human figures un-embroidered and faceless against fully textured backgrounds, she creates a deliberate contrast between presence and absence that highlights human transience while leaving space for viewers’ own memories. Each intricate piece requires approximately one hundred hours of focused work, turning the slow layering process of hand embroidery into a conscious gesture of resistance against the modern pressure for rapid artistic production.
