Lisa Ottenburgh is a Belgian illustrator who graduated from the LUCA School of Arts Ghent in 2020 and has since balanced her studio practice with teaching art and contributing to international publications like Wobby magazine, Apache, and Baobab. Having spent recent years traveling through Italy, the Czech Republic, and France as part of a Creative Europe exchange project, she won first prize at the Biennial of Illustration in Belgium for a self-published calendar, which led to a city mural commission and her 2026 solo exhibition, “The Grand Tour”. For the LUSTR festival, she presents artwork from her ongoing graphic novel of the same name, a deeply personal project inspired by the 1783 travel letters of William Beckford. The narrative follows an impatient 18th-century young man whose high expectations for his customary journey to Italy are immediately overshadowed by an unbearable melancholy and longing for home the moment he leaves his familiar surroundings. Her exhibition display beautifully couples these evocative narrative drawings with a custom-made, three-by-two-meter linen curtain that translates one of her illustrations into an intricate patchwork technique.
