Marius Lagene is a comics artist, zine publisher, and theater practitioner who runs a mini-comics publishing house in Paris and balances her life between France and Brussels. Deeply invested in the international independent community and the broader European comics scene, she also holds a master’s thesis focused on Ukrainian comics in times of war, inspired in part by her own Ukrainian heritage. For the festival, she presents a multifaceted, immersive exhibition built around an original short comic set in a meticulously crafted retro-futurist world. The display pairs sequential narrative panels from the comic with an array of physical props and “fake” historical objects that she designed using an invented, fictional language. Through these fabricated artifacts—which include newspaper clippings, fake archives, incomprehensible advertisements, and absurd food packaging—she invites the audience to step directly into the world-building elements of her graphic universe.
