Nadia Schlosser is a Danish illustrator and comic artist based in Edinburgh who primarily uses colored pencils, watercolor, and Risograph printing to evoke deep feelings of nostalgia and belonging. Through comics, children’s stories, and occasional animation, they create intricate and surreal worlds that reflect the internal psychological landscapes of their inhabitants. For the festival, they present their self-published, 38-page Risograph comic titled “Mollusc”, which was drawn entirely by hand with black colored pencil and printed using yellow, red, aqua, and black inks. Utilizing surreal underwater imagery inspired by molluscs, seaweed, and seashells, the narrative explores the emotional aftermath of sexual assault and the intense struggle of living within an invaded body. Furthermore, the otherworldly atmosphere addresses the absurdity of victim-blaming and the resulting feelings of isolation, while simultaneously drawing poignant parallels between the physical violation of the human body and the ecological destruction of our planet’s oceans.
