Saki Matsumoto is a Tokyo and Prague-based illustrator and graphic artist whose extensive background spans graphic design and animal science, with degrees from Central Saint Martins and UMPRUM in Prague. An Adobe Creative Residency recipient and a member of the Tokyo Illustrators Society and Hollar, her cross-cultural practice is deeply inspired by folklore, animism, nature, mythology, and the delicate boundaries between life and death. For the festival, she presents “Imaginal Nature and Towns Around the World,” an exhibition that synthesizes her diverse influences into a striking visual exploration of mystical landscapes and urban settings. Utilizing a mix of digital techniques, risograph, silkscreen printing, and traditional painting, her work transforms geographical observations into surreal, narrative-driven spaces. Ultimately, her display bridges Eastern and Western artistic traditions, inviting the audience to explore an alternative, poetic geography where nature and human architecture intimately coexist.
