Every year, around four hundred young adults leave children’s homes. Will they manage to stand on their own two feet without a financial cushion and a safety net from family and friends? Or will any potential emotional (and physical) trauma, along with years spent in institutional care, where they often didn’t learn solid interpersonal relationships or the functioning of everyday life, catch up with them? More than half end up on the streets, in the depths of drug addiction, or in a prison cell.
Let’s change that!
As a Prague branch of the international artistic residency project Remix Comix, Mezikrok aims to familiarize the public with the challenges faced by young adults leaving children’s homes. It offers a simple series of steps that can lead to direct assistance and introduces non-profit organizations that deal with the issue. As part of the project, a large-format painting was created, depicting the experiences of children in institutional care.
