Enjoy a workshop with one of the biggest stars of this year’s LUSTR festival! You will make a short personal comic with a focus on narrative and transformation. Brecht Vandenbroucke is a former Belgian painter and illustrator who likes dark humor, pop culture references and twisted narratives. Workshop is open to both experienced creators and complete laics, just to everyone who likes to draw!
Visual artist Brecht Vandenbroucke graduated in art and design from the Belgian Sint Lukas and primarily focuses on painting, comics, and illustration. He enjoys working with references to pop culture and draws inspiration from Disney cartoons and pop art. His work alternates between humorous and darker contexts, often addressing themes related to labor, social class, and sexuality. It is simultaneously humorous and socially critical. Vandenbroucke’s illustrations regularly appear in national and international newspapers and magazines such as New York Times, Wired, Tetu, De Morgen, and Knack. He has contributed to anthologies like Zone 5300, Petit Néant, Kuti, and the Latvian anthology Kuš!, and publishes with the prestigious British publisher Nobrow Press. In 2009, his work was recognized at the international comic festival Fumetto in Lucerne, Switzerland.
The workshop is suitable for participants aged 15+, will be held in English, and will last for 2 hours. Drawing materials will be provided on-site.
