We invite everyone who cares about Czech illustration and comics to a moderated debate on the situation of book illustrators and the artist’s status. The conditions in book publishing are very dire, with the incomes of illustrators and comic artists often falling well below a dignified wage. In the future, will it be possible to pursue book illustration as a luxury hobby, affordable only to those who have other sources of income or own property? What are the prospects for improvement, and what does the status of artists look like, which the government could ease for those working in culture, who today struggle to pay the same contributions as commercial entrepreneurs due to meager fees? The roundtable will bring together illustrators, publishers, politicians, and representatives of the Status of the Artist initiative.
