Yellow & Blue

HALA 13, Bubenské nábř. 306, 170 00 Prague 7-Holešovice

The Yellow & Blue project is a vibrant and multifaceted attempt to showcase fragments of contemporary Ukraine and its history through the eyes of Ukrainian illustrators. The exhibition also serves as an invitation for viewers to explore Ukraine and look beyond the depicted fragments.

This series of the Yellow & Blue exhibition reflects the overarching and delicate balance between fragility and resistance, which resonates deeply in the context of Ukraine’s ongoing war for sovereignty and identity.

The exhibition presents a fragmented “mosaic” vision of Ukraine at the crossroads of the past and present. It features traditional celebrations, food, musical instruments, and underground raves; post-Soviet suburbs with chaotic balcony arrangements; Soviet modernism and contemporary business centers; musicians in the metro and overcrowded minibusses; spontaneous markets and enthusiasts of craft beer and third-wave coffee; chatty taxi drivers and silent IT workers with laptops in cafés; and the wild beauty and diversity of nature, from the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains and mountain lakes, crowded river and sea beaches to the legendary Ukrainian steppes.

All these fragments that have always existed in Ukraine, those that have changed or emerged recently, the innovations of today, and borrowed elements from other cultures, everything that will be created tomorrow, and all the meanings that have been or are still emerging, hold value for Ukrainians. Unfortunately, this value is often fragile, especially in the face of Russian aggression. Ukrainians are fighting today to preserve the right of each of these fragments to exist.
