Exhibition of Czech and Slovak Illustrators within the Off Programme of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (April 2026)
An exhibition of Czech women illustrators presented as part of the off programme taking place in the city during the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, April 2026.

The exhibition focuses on female perspectives and lived experience. The title Mamma mia?—with its question mark—points to uncertainty: questioning established stereotypes, expectations society places on women, and long-standing norms. Through the eyes of cis and trans women illustrators, the exhibition explores ideas of womanhood in the 21st century—yet instead of offering a single definitive answer, it presents a diversity of viewpoints and raises further questions.

The curatorial selection emphasises a wide range of approaches—from classic book illustration and comics sequences to artist zines and large-scale canvases, as well as textiles and objects. It shows how contemporary Czech illustration goes beyond the printed page and naturally enters physical space.
