Showcase – Illustration

LUSTR’s largest exhibition is the now-traditional Showcase. This year, it will once again present the work of Czech and international talents in illustration and comics. The exhibition features works submitted through our open call, which we announce at the beginning of each year. The number of submissions grows every year, and this year was no exception. There were 767 of them in total.

Selecting the exhibitors involves the challenging task of judging, which this year in the Free Illustration section was undertaken by Julie Černá, an illustrator, animator, and author of the comic book trilogy, Kámen Osudu (Stone of Destiny), as well as the creator of last year’s visuals for the LUSTR festival. Another juror is Alžběta Zemanová, an illustrator well-known to festival fans and co-founder of Xao, a publishing house, bookstore, and gallery in Vršovice. Tomáš Luňák, an animator, director, and member of the Council for the Support of Animation and Video Games at the State Audiovisual Fund, also took a seat on the jury. Rounding out the quartet is Linda Retterová, founder of the Roe brand, under which she creates textiles, original patterns, and hand-printed fabrics.
