Sarah Böttcher

Sarah is an illustrator and comic artist. Their creative work focuses on both classic and experimental forms of graphic narrative and storytelling. Sarah’s comics are often poetic and autofictional, exploring themes of affect, loneliness, and queer desire. More recently, they have also become interested in drawing fantastic — or not so fantastic — creatures. Sarah studied illustration at the Berlin University of the Arts and is currently completing their studies at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig.
Title of the artwork: The Spiral
Annotation of the artwork: “The Spiral” is their latest publication, released by Colorama. It explores spaces in between. In a moment of being stuck, the protagonist encounters mythological manifestations of her insecurities and begins to negotiate with them in an attempt to find her way back into movement. The fragmentary 36-page comic is Riso-printed in black and white.
