Pingpong is a freshly formed artistic duo composed of two Slovak illustrators Alica Kucharovič and Bessa Illustration. What unites this duo, apart from their love for drawing and illustration, is their energetic line, always led in a slightly different way (each illustrator’s own), but in both cases driven by the same dose of humour and irony. “We set out to create visually tantalizing, sexy, engaged and provocative illustrations, installations or murals that aim to stimulate the eye and the racio of the viewer, and thus take them out of the lethargy of the current digital post-factual age. Ping pong as a method. Pingpong as a game between them – two illustrators who pass the drawing between each other – and at the same time an open dialogue with the viewer himself about the state of the contemporary world.”
Alica Kucharovič is a Slovak illustrator and animator based in Piešt’any. She graduated at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, in the Animation Studio. She is a digital illustrator, but she prefers to paint or print on large walls, create patterns on fabrics or experiment with graphic techniques such as screen printing and risography. With a light hand, Alice draws, sometimes less and sometimes more critically, but almost always with a grateful addition of humour and understanding, scenes from the ordinary life of a person. She is the co-founder of the Fest Anča festival of animated films. She has long collaborated on the animated Radioheads for Radio FM, and for RTVS she is co-creator of the animated series on etiquette – The Chochmes. Together with the independent publishing house Fagan Books she created an illustrated book “Kto sú ľudia?” (Who are the people?), which was listed by BIBIANA among the best books of 2021/2022 in Slovakia. https://alicakucharovic.com/
Bessa’s work is digital, vector illustration, both commercial and freelance. Her work captures contemporary man in relation to technology, nature and ecology and his everyday reality. Using an energetic line, she creates dynamic visuals full of humour and irony, where different narratives intertwine. She enjoys working on projects with an overlap into mural or ceramics. Bessa has had many successful collaborations with local and international brands (Wired CZ, Meta, Berliner Zeitung, Forbes Japan, Lidl). She was shortlisted for the prestigious World Illustration Award 2023 and among the winners of the Communication Arts 2025 Illustration Annual. Bessa graduated from the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica with a Master’s degree in Graphic Design. She works and lives in Prague.
