Jiyung Lee

Jiyung Lee is a Korean illustrator whose minimalist style distills objects to their essential forms,
exploring the space between image and language. Working with watercolour, pastel, and digital
drawing, she often transforms everyday subjects into visual series. Drawing as a base practice,
she explores various forms of presentation such as risoprinting, installations, and independent
publishing.

Artwork description –
“Une chose sans noms” (A Thing Without a Name) is a short story about a nameless “thing” on a
journey to find its name. The story explores why we name objects and people, and how names are
connected to identity.
The idea for this story began with a personal experience of living abroad, where the Korean name Jiyung Lee
was often mispronounced or altered into something slightly unfamiliar. That small, personal
moment led to broader reflections on names, and how they are more than just functional labels.
Through this story, Jiyung Lee wanted to explore what it means to have a name, to be named, and what it might feel like to remain unnamed.
